This unique historical, recreational, and cultural landmark is not protected by any trust, historical, or preservation means.

Sandy Point Stables is an historic horse stable in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, built in 1902 by Reginald C. Vanderbilt. A majestic example of Gilded Age architecture, Sandy Point Stables has been a beloved, thriving equestrian center for more than 120 years. It is one of the oldest indoor riding arenas in the US.

Also, for the last 40 years, Reggie Vanderbilt’s former lounge room has been home to Stable Sound Studio, the longest-operating recording studio in all of New England. The Studio is revered by local and world-renowned musicians alike.

Without a preservation-minded buyer and the help of community involvement, we stand to lose the 120 year legacy of Sandy Point to developers who want to demolish this irreplaceable historic structure for a handful of houses or condominiums.
