Our Mission

Objective: To find a buyer to protect and preserve Sandy Point Stables so this one-of-a-kind historical, recreational, and cultural landmark can be enjoyed and used as a riding facility and horse stables (as it was always intended) for decades to come.

Why this Matters: If you care about historic or land preservation, if you care about the geography and open spaces of Aquidneck Island and your community, if you love horses and green space, or if you support music/the arts, then saving Sandy Point Stables is an important mission that deserves and needs your help.

Without your support and concern, Sandy Point Stables will fall into the hands of developers that will:

• Destroy a unique architectural treasure: the largest remaining stable from Newport’s Gilded Age and one of the oldest indoor arenas in the country.

• Destroy a beloved fully-functioning equestrian center and the “birthplace” of the U.S. Equestrian Federation (the national governing body of the sport to this day)

• Destroy open land and further congest the Sandy Point neighborhood

• Set a precedent for future demolition of historic and significant landmarks in the name of development and short term profit goals
